Why cities today are so similar?

It isn’t secret that many modern large cities look alike and have same problems and difficulties. Even style of living in these cities is similar in many ways. This situation becomes widely spread because of the methods and principles how these cities developed in the last century.

First of all, every big city must have good canalization system. Canalization system consists of not pipes under the ground of the city but also special buildings and constructions. There are many such buildings in modern cities and it makes them look alike.

Second, large cities have the same means of public transportation like subway for example. Subway may be long or short, beautiful or not but all subways in the world were built on the same principle: large tunnels under ground of the city. It also makes big cities similar to each other.

Phone system in large cities differs from country to country. But it’s difficult even imagine big city without public phones on the streets. It doesn’t matter whether you are in Tokyo or in New York but you probably see such phones on the streets. And this of course makes all big cities slightly similar.

We can find many similar things in big cities which make them look similar. It happens because we all live in the same time, use the same means of communication and transportation and technologies and believe in the same values. All this make us and our cities similar in many ways.
